Smokey Eye

Step by Step "Smokey Eye"

It’s sexy and smoldery! What’s not to like about it? Here are your step by step instructions:

Line your upper and lower lash line (right into the roots of the lashes) with a dark liner (black, dark brown or a dark plum) then smudge it with an angle brush (or q-tip) to soften the line

*If you have large eyes, line the inner rim (water wells) with black for an extra sultry look

Apply matching dark eye shadow from your lash line up to the crease, and sweep under the lower lash line to soften the pencil.

Now use a softer color in the same color family like a burgundy brown or eggplant and sweep into the crease.

Add another sweep of shimmery highlighter under the arch of your brow and to the inner corners by the tear duct.

Blend, Blend, Blend!! So the color graduates and does not stop and start but also so you have the darkest color at your lash line and it should graduate to the lightest color at the brow bone.

Apply mascara on the top and bottom lashes (I would recommend false eyelashes for this look)

Last but not least apply your favorite lip color and you have accomplished “The Smokey Eye”

Choosing the right undertone in your Foundation:
If you’re buying foundations in a drugstore and you can’t try it on your skin first, steer clear of the foundations that appear to be “pink” in the bottle. These colors will make your skin look unnaturally red and don’t look so great. The slightest hint of “Yellow” is what you will be looking for yellow counteracts the discoloration in your skin giving it a neutral overall natural color and making you look flawless and younger. But really I have foundations at a great price and I will color match you for FREE!!

Cancer Causeing Agents

1,4-Dioxane, this cancer-causing petrochemical has been found at high levels in dozens of babies’ and adults’ personal care products. In July 2007, laboratory tests revealed the presence of this petroleum-derived contaminate in popular baby products, including BEST SELLING baby baths!!

1,4-Dioxane is considered a probable human carcinogen by the U.S. EPA. Animal tests indisputably proven its tumor-promoting activity. It is also on California’s Safe Drinking Water and TOXIC Enforcement Act list of chemicals know or suspected by the state to cause cancer or birth defects.

This carcinogen forms during a procedure called ethoxylation, a cheap shortcut that companies use to provide “mildness” to harsh ingredients.

However you will never find 1,4-Dioxane in an ingredient list instead you will need to look for names that contain “eth” such as: sodium laureth sulphate, (PEG) polyethylene glycol, oleth, ,ceteareth-basically, any ingredient that has eth in its name most likely test positive for 1,4-Dioxane.

Read your labels!! Learn and educate yourself and be a healthy self!! I hope you find this as helpful and fascinating as I do! I will keep the info coming and will be adding some home “Green” recipes from to book soon.

More on Green Beauty

Did you know the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) employs a hands-off approach to cosmetics: there is no harm until harm is proven. Instead of testing products before they are sold, the FDA regulates products only after they are sold. In 67 YEARS the FDA has only banned or restricted nine (9)!! Personal care ingredients.

It took the FDA 20 years to ban LEAD in paint on toys and furniture. However a recent wave of recalls of millions of children’s toys that were contaminated with excessive amounts of lead in paint shows that such bans mean very little when it comes to Mass Selling.

Food for Thought I never knew just how dangerous the products on the shelves were until I started reading. It is sad to know that if it is going to sell to the masses it doesn’t matter if it is safe of not…

One of my “missions” as a Make-Up Artist is to bring the awareness of ingredients to my followers! I have to say that in the past I secretly thought people who are “Green” all the way are a bit over the top. But as I have educated myself along the way I have found I am one of “those GREEN” people. I have always said Knowledge is POWER! I want to share with you some of the interesting things I have discovered that have changed my way of thinking and have moved me to action. Most of the information I will share on this topic will be referenced from the Amazing Julie Gabriel and her fantastic Book “The Green Beauty Guide”. I encourage you to read it, if not read my blog for the highlights :)
We are obsessed with all the new lotions and potions that promise to make our skin appear healthy. We are so eager to make these magic concoctions work that we do not ask ourselves whether this chemical cocktail is actually making our skin younger or any healthier. We have to be careful of what we put on our skin, Skin can absorb up to 60% of what is applied to its surface. In a consumer study of 7,500 bestselling beauty products the findings showed, about 90% of cosmetic ingredients have NEVER been analyzed for health impacts by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Board, a panel that oversees cosmetic safety. Nearly 55% of products contain “penetration enhancers” that increase the ability of chemicals to enter the bloodstream…. Just something to think about I will continue sharing more details. Let me know what you think. -Shante’

Under Eye Puffiness: Common mistake most make in trying to conceal this area is putting a light Concealer over the entire under eye area. This only draws attention to your problem, instead you can out smart your puffiness by highlighting the shadowy area just underneath it. This helps to bring it out and make it appear even with the rest of your face. Because most people look directly at you and not from above, your puffiness with appear even with the rest of your skin. Voila!! You’re flawless!!

What are you Washing With? If you have ever been to one of my workshops you know I pound it into your head that you MUST wash with a cleanser. SOAP and WATER will just not cut it!! So I found an article by DR. OZ that backs me up. Listen Up ladies and gentle men!! “You have an acid mantel (like Cellophane) that forms a protection layer on your skin to inhabit the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi. If it loses this acidity, the skin more prone to damage and infection. How does it loose its acidity by washing your face with ordinary soap!!!! Regular soap counteracts the acidity, so you end up removing the mantle that seals in moisture. You need a soap that is pH-balanced.” DR. OZ – so if you have any questions on cleansers that are right for you contact me and we will get you on the right track!! Have a fab day!!

Brows: Liner VS Powder Pencil is the easiest because it offers control. Use it to fill the bald or sparse spots and to extend the brow slightly. The pencil needs to be sharp every time to achieve the tiny hairline strokes. Brow Powder: Looks like a shadow, but the formula is different it is chalkier allowing it to stay put. Apply with a short, firm angled brush and again use tiny harilike strokes. Powder is the most natural looking because it looks softer than pencil. Quick tip when Tweezing- do it right after you shower, your hair follicles are more open and the hair will come out more easily 
